Rising star Fred Roberts is rounding off a breakthrough 2023 with candid third single ‘Disguise’, dropping on streaming platforms today.
For fans of Troye Sivan, Lauv and MUNA, the singer/songwriter will be no secret thanks to debut single ‘Runaway’ and follow-up ‘Say’. Already pulling in hundreds of thousands of streams and over 21,000 monthly Spotify listeners, Roberts has already earmarked himself as one to watch over the next 12 months.
On ‘Disguise’, the singer showcases a different side to the soft-rock of those first releases as he muses on being kept a secret by a first love.
Explaining the track, Roberts said: “My third single ‘Disguise’ is out now. ‘Disguise’ tells the story of my first experience of love with a boy, and the frustration and inner turmoil of being kept a secret by someone.
“I questioned whether I needed to be ‘somebody else’ in order to be loved, and battled with the impossible desire to become the right person for him. Releasing this track was so important to me and I can’t thank you all enough for listening to me tell my story.
“The support already has been incredible and it’s really special that so many people have connected with the message.”
Having risen to prominence through a stint on The X Factor: The Band in 2019, the 20-year-old has carved out his own sound and is building a fanbase invested in his open-hearted pop flicks.
