British Actor Finn Jones, best known for his role as Loras Tyrell in the HBO smash hit series Game of Thrones, has been announced as the star of upcoming Marvel/Netflix original series Iron Fist, in which he will play the titular character.
Iron Fist follows the story of Daniel Rand, who fights crime and corruption in New York City with his immense martial arts powers. His proficiency in Martial Arts is enhanced by his ability to summon the power of the Iron Fist, which gives him name and makes his powers truly extraordinary.
Marvel’s Iron Fist will be the fourth collaboration between Netflix and Marvel, following Daredevil and Jessica Jones, which have begun filming Season 2, and Luke Cage, which will air its first season later this year.
Iron Fist will be the fourth and final of a series of shows that will culminate in all of the Marvel/Netflix collaborations teaming up to fight crime together.
After all four of the Netflix/Marvel Super Heroes have aired at least one series on the streaming website, they will all come together in an Avengers style Super Group known as The Defenders, where all four stars (Charlie Cox’s Daredevil, Krysten Ritters Jessica Jones, Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and now Finn Jones’ Iron Fist) will become Co-Stars in Marvel and Netflix’s 5th collaboration, Marvel’s The Defenders, expected to air as early as 2017!
Those guys at Marvel really plan ahead, don’t they?
Filming for Iron Fist is expected to kick off as April, the same month we will next see Finn on our screens (hopefully) in Game of Thrones, in which his character is still very much alive and kicking, albeit currently imprisoned.
Filming for Game of Thrones tends to begin a few months after the series ends, meaning that if Finn’s Character Loras is to survive the upcoming sixth series of the hit HBO show, filming for both shows may not necessarily clash, and the actor would be able to balance a starring role on Marvel’s Iron Fist with a supporting role on Game of Thrones.
The news of the casting, as uncovered and reported by Entertainment Weekly, did not give any details about when the series will be available to stream on Netflix, but we are told an announcement will be incoming that should at least give an approximate air date.
