Los Angeles-based artist GhostDragon hooks up with vocalist Kwesi on “Meaning To,” a track lifted from his forthcoming EP, Strangers Again, via Paradise Music Group.
Talking about the song, GhostDragon shares, “‘Meaning To’ is a reflection of one finding an authentic voice despite past failures in love. Collaborating with Kwesi challenged me to match reflective folk instrumentals to uplifting EDM beats. As we approach the summer, I hope listeners can relax, reflect, and rise to a real meaning.”
Only 20 years old, GhostDragon has collaborated with The Chainsmokers, Zedd, Marshmello, Nicky Romero, Mako, and Slander, along with having his music featured on Proximity, Wave Music, MrSuicideSheep, Chill Nation, and Trap City. He’s shared the stage with mega-artists like GRYFFIN, Kaskade, G-Eazy, Mako, Vincent, Walshy Fire of Major Lazer, Drake Bell, Cash Cash, and R3HAB.
“Meaning To” opens on a folk/pop-flavored acoustic guitar topped by Kwesi’s deliciously evocative tones, encompassing depth and intense passion. It’s a voice highlighted by scrumptious rasping notes, imbuing the lyrics with authenticity. Kwesi sings from the heart.
As the melody gathers dimension, soft sweeping strings enter, followed by chiming bells and a beguiling rhythm full of low-slung rumblings. Blending plush pop surfaces and rippling dance elements, “Meaning To” rises above the boundaries of dance music through the inclusion of folk savors.
On the chorus, surging, luminous harmonies infuse the tune with longing coloration, giving the song tantalizing elusive momentum, at once bewitching and rife with aching echoes. Intimate and brimming with concentrated pangs of poignant emotions, Kwesi’s deluxe vocal flow escalates to expressive falsetto colorants, investing his chronicle of feelings with enormous vulnerability.
Simultaneously melodic and wistful, GhostDragon and Kwesi offer an exquisite song underscoring the idea of taking stock, remembering, and moving on.
