Ahead of her headline show at The Lower Third in London this evening, alt-pop visionary Gia Ford today (January 24th) shares her brand new single ‘Poolside’.
Produced by Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers), and recorded in LA at the renowned Sound City Studios, the super melodic track sees the Sheffield-born star tell a cautionary tale from the perspective of a disenchanted poolboy, working under the glare of the relentless Los Angeles sunshine.
Tapping into feelings of disconnection, and tackling themes of class, wealth and aspiration in the modern age, the powerful song serves as the follow up to previous single releases ‘Alligator’ and ‘Falling in Love Again’.
Explaining the inspiration behind the track, Ford says via a press release: “‘Poolside’ was first inspired by an image from a coffee table book, depicting affluent 60’s Los Angeles. A birds-eye shot of houses with pools in the hills.”
“I imagined a poolboy, disillusioned and angry at the world, and began describing what he felt and saw, working in a well-to-do LA neighbourhood. There’s this separation between him and the people he’s working for. He’s invisible to them.”

Following the release of ‘Poolside’ Gia will hit the road this spring, as the opening act for English songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Marika Hackman.
Throughout March the two singers will perform a series of shows across the UK, starting in Glasgow on March 12th, before visiting Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Brighton, Birmingham, Bristol and London.
Following the completion of the tour, Ford will take to the stage at The Great Escape Festival in May, following her spotlight as one of The Great Escape’s First Fifty.
