When you think of your perfect gig, you picture the crowd singing along in unison. Your favourite band is doing a tour, and you’ve spent months counting down. The anticipation is amongst the people around you, and you can feel that pre-gig sensation starting to kick in. All your problems disappear for the entire day and all you can think of is that two hours.
We had the opportunity to see With Confidence at their first UK headline show, and it’s more than what we could’ve asked for.
The four-piece announced the UK leg of their ‘Better Weather,’ tour last year. They had already performed across the UK in 2016 with As It Is, and on Slam Dunk Festival. Over the course of those appearances, it added to their ever growing UK fanbase.
Before we go into major details, we just want to say this: With Confidence are phenomenal live. We’ve been to gigs of all types, but this has gone down as one of the best we’ve ever experienced.
They opened with fan-favourite, Voldemort, and as soon as they hit the stage they showed they meant business and the crowd were singing along in unison. They played their debut album, Better Weather, in its entirety along with songs from their EPs.
When an artist is due to play a sold out show, you kind of expect that they’re going to receive a great reception. However, the atmosphere was something you don’t experience every time you go to a sold out gig. To describe it in one word, it would have to be electric.
Every song on their debut album, Better Weather, is a potential hit single. From upbeat songs like We’ll Be Okay, to a glimpse of heartache from Long Night, the crowd were either waving their lights or crowd surfing. From start to finish, it showed just how much this band has to offer, and just how far they’re going to go.
Throughout the show, With Confidence thanked the crowd for being there and helping them sell out their first UK headline show. Lead singer, Jayden, mentioned how since arriving in the country he hasn’t been feeling too well. However, meeting fans before the show and the gig as a whole lifted his spirits and he felt better.
All in all, the gig was brilliant. The setlist was well crafted which meant that throughout the show the crowd would be moving. As well as moving, the lyrics sang back by the crowd were faultless. If you were at the gig spontaneously, not really knowing the band, you’d think that With Confidence have done headline tours in the UK for years. With this being their first, it really shows how dedicated their fans are. Fans had been queuing to score front row since well before 9am. Even as we looked around the venue just before the band hit the stage, it was crammed. In the end, we left wishing it hadn’t ended and amazed at how truly phenomenal the show was.
As a whole, we are going to remember this gig for many years to come. When you see an artist in a small venue, and it’s sold out, you feel the true intimacy of it. With Confidence grabbed it by the hands, and completely crushed it. Crushed it to the point where the aftermath has us wishing for more. And by more, we mean booking tickets to see them in other dates. Literally.
Finally, we just want to say a huge thank you to the band. We’ve been waiting for the day you performed a headliner in the UK and it surpassed all our expectations. You truly are going to go far in the music industry, and this is only the small steps before you hit the big time. If you keep performing and acting the way you are currently, it won’t be long until you play an arena as a headliner. And we will be there supporting you.
