Griff contemplates the pitfalls in entrusting her heart with a person who appears uncertain as to whether or not she is “the one” with the release of her new track ‘Astronaut’.
Written solely by the singer herself, and co-produced with Bill Rahko (Daft Punk, Justin Bieber) and Sam Tsang (Ed Sheeran, Maisie Peters), the delicate ballad comes complete with piano from Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
The track also completes ‘vert1go vol.1’ – a new chapter of music from the Hertfordshire native, and her first steps on a new creative journey set to continue next year…
“I wrote ‘Astronaut’ about the idea of being left behind,” Griff says of the haunting, yet deeply relatable song via a press release. “In young relationships, when someone needs time to figure out and find themselves without you, it hurts because you’re left wondering what about yourself wasn’t enough for them.”
On collaborating with Martin, the ‘Black Hole’ singer adds: “I was opening for Coldplay on two legs of their European tours in 2022 and 2023 and Chris asked me to play him some of the new music I was working on.”
“He really got stuck in! We listened to maybe 30 of my songs together, but he kept stopping ‘Astronaut’. Chris advised me to strip it all back and keep things simple, so I had the cheek to ask him to play on it himself and I am so honoured he agreed.”
To commemorate the tracks release, Griff shares a beautiful performance video filmed live at the Greenwich Maritime Museum.
With her heartfelt, tender vocal taking centre stage, the beautifully shot clip effortlessly captures the mood and emotion of the song, which by all accounts has gone down a storm with fans who attended the 22-year-olds critically-acclaimed live shows this past autumn.
