Cinemas across the world were graced with the spectacular film Guardians of the Galaxy on July 31st, 2014, and although well over a year since its cinema release, it still feels as if it’s brand new Hollywood material.
Don’t fret fans if you feel like this film was the end for the uncanny gang’s adventures, as Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is well under way! It was confirmed yesterday (17th September) by film producer James Gunn that they’re currently building the “giant” set within Atlanta.
As anticipating as set building is, that doesn’t mean they’ve started filming yet. Boo. Although I’m sure it won’t be long until we start to see some dodgy, low quality, action shots of Peter Quill in that (rather dashing) red leather jacket appearing on the beautiful Twitter-sphere or in the realms of Tumblr.
Also, not only was it revealed they’ve started production, but it was confirmed by James Gunn last week from his tweet to a fan that there’s a NEW member joining the crew. However, he assured that “it won’t be Nova”. Does this mean there’s going to be another female joining the team? There’s all the possibility of Mantis, a telepath and a master in martial arts who can locate physical weak points on opponents, who appeared in the original comic book series and just sounds all round pretty bad-ass. You can never have enough female heroes.
The good news doesn’t just stop there though. Another revealed fact is that we’ll find out more to Peter Quill’s background story, as well as Rocket Raccoon. Apparently Quill’s father will make an appearance, or at least be made clear to the viewers about who he is. James Gunn explained how he didn’t like the character of the father within the comic book series, so essentially he’s created a whole new character to take the role. He says “There have been a lot of documents passed around about whom Peter Quill’s father is between a select two or three of us. That’s been part of the plan since the beginning, that’s something I had to work out before we shot the screenplay. It’s definitely not the character who it is in the comics though, I’ll say that much.” Alongside the revealing of his family, it’s highly anticipated by many fans to know how Quill came about to create his ‘Awesome Mix’, and why he’s so damn protective of it during the first Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s obvious to many that it holds strong sentimental value, seeing as he risked his life to rescue it back.
Speaking of the sound track… ‘Awesome Mix Volume No.1’ was so successful; will the music producers of Guardians of the Galaxy be able to top it with the ‘Awesome Mix Volume No.2’ tape that Quill’s mother gave him before passing away?
So many questions and so long to wait! Anyone else super excited? And does anyone else feel like there’s going to be some tears shed in the cinema? We’ll have to wait until 5th May 2017 to see what the second film entails for the band of antiheroes.
