‘Closer’, the new #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, has become the 1,057th song to top the charts in its 58 year history. In addition, the collaboration has earned Halsey and The Chainsmokers their first number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Leaping from 6-1, the song was able to overthrow Sia’s ‘Cheap Thrills’ which had overtaken the summit for four consecutive weeks. Both artists also claim the top spot on the Digital Song Chart, where ‘Closer’ sold approximately 116,000 units on the week ending August 18th.
According to Billboard, “The Chainsmokers are the first duo or group to pace the Hot 100 in more than two years, since MAGIC! led for six weeks in July and August 2014 with “Rude.”
Internationally, ‘Closer’ has topped the ARIA (Australia), and PARI (Philippines) charts. With that, the song has received a platinum certification from the ARIA singles chart for selling 70,000+ units.
The collaboration is expected to rise throughout world charts due to its recent release on July 29th. Its one month anniversary may be close, but the song has already charted and sold extremely well in such a short period of time. Currently, its stability on the iTunes chart proves that well as ‘Closer’ is #1 in 12 countries and #1 in 9 countries (streaming/Spotify numbers).
