Last Friday, June 3rd, Disney’s animated classic film “The Little Mermaid” was relived at the Hollywood Bowl in a magnificent event.
The film was playing on the screens while a 71-piece live orchestra performed the original score, along with many other songs from the Broadway musical, and an all-star cast who provided voices to the unforgettable characters.
Grammy-nominated singer Sara Bareilles headlined the event as Ariel, the main character, as Pitch Perfect’s actress Rebel Wilson played the villain, Ursula; Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s actor and Primetime Emmy-nominated Tituss Burgess played Sebastian, and Glee’s star and Emmy-nominated Darren Criss played Prince Eric.
The cast also included Full House’s star John Stamos as Chef Louis, Tony Award-nominated Norm Lewis as King Triton and the young Broadway promise Joshua Colley as Flounder. Every single one of them gave an outstanding performance, an incredible homage to the original film.
At the end of the show and as credits appeared on the screens, a magical fireworks spectacle enlightened the sky, before Ariel’s original voice, Jodi Benson, took the stage for one last performance of “Part Of Your World”, finishing the first night of three of this wonderful show.
“The Little Mermaid Live” will have another two performances on Saturday 4th and on Monday 6th, in this last one with Jodi Benson as Ariel.
