Harry Styles facetimed into the Hits Radio breakfast show with Fleur East, Greg and James on his way to Copenhagen, to chat about his upcoming appearance on SNL, his single Lights Up and that cryptic tweet.
The Lights Up singer was left blushing after fellow X Factor alumni Fleur teasingly asked if it ever got boring being so handsome. “I don’t know how to answer that. You flatter me”, Harry humbly answered like the true king he is.
On his grandfather’s relief that he’s still employed –
“I’m happy to be back. I was ready to put some music out. I’m excited to be working again. Actually when I put the song out, I got a text from my mum who’d played it to my grandfather, who said, ‘Yeah, he likes it. He’s just happy you’re still working!’. (Harry Styles Speaking to Hits Radio)
On how he’s feeling ahead of hosting and performing at Saturday Night Live on 16th November –
“I’m not going to lie I’m a little nervous. I’ve been there before to perform. So I know kind of like how insane it is backstage and how, like hectic everything is. Even when you’re just playing two songs on it, so the idea of doing everything is definitely a little nerve wracking, but I’m excited for it. I think it’s going to be really fun.”
On his new song ‘Lights Up’ and the inspiration behind it –
“For me it’s a very uplifting song. And I think in places it’s kind of dark. But to me, it’s very liberating… It’s about self-reflection and self-discovery and just, like freedom. It feels like very free to me. Things that I’ve been trying to process and I guess wrestle with a little bit over the last couple years. It’s kind of like just accepting all of those things. it’s a very positive song to me.” (Harry Styles Speaking to Hits Radio)
Talking about the infamous “Do” tweet.
“Can I be really honest? I was half asleep and I don’t remember sending it. I was half asleep, I woke up, was like ‘Oh I’m going to do a thing for the song coming out’. And then I went back to sleep and when I woke up my manager was like, ‘what are you doing?!’ I was like, ‘I don’t know. I’m sorry’’ So yeah, I don’t exactly remember doing it, but it felt harmless.
