Rihanna is just as active behind the stage as she is on it. Apart from giving us chart topping singles, the singer has been taking initiatives to ensure education to children.
For her efforts, Harvard has named Rihanna Peter J. Gomes’ Humanitarian of the Year 2017. The singer and actress will be receiving the award on Tuesday that is, 28th February.
The announcement for the award was made on 22nd February. On naming Rihanna as the awardee, S. Allen Counter, the Harvard’s Foundation Director said,
“Rihanna has charitably built a state-of- the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados”.
A few years ago, she founded the Clara Lionel Foundation Global Scholarship Program for students attending college in the U.S. from Caribbean countries.
She also supports the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen Project, “which provides children with access to education in over 60 developing countries, giving priority to girls, and those affected by lack of access to education in the world today. ”
On the musical front, Rihanna has sold more than 200 million records and on the social front, she has been working to make people’s lives better. She is not only a celebrity fans admire, but a human being who commands respect.
