It’s been three years since we first bought you the news that the BBC had commissioned a television adaptation of Philip Pullman’s, “His Dark Materials,” trilogy, but we finally have an update on the series that is sure to make you scream with excitement… The complete cast list has finally been announced and it features some of your favourite screen stars and filming is now officially underway!
Yes, you read that right. Filming for the upcoming drama officially started on 27th June.
And the cast for the adaptation couldn’t be more star-studded. Georgina Campbell (Black Mirror), Ian Gelder (Game of Thrones), Lin-Manuel Miranda, James McAvoy and Dafne Keen have all signed onto the eight-episode series along with Anne-Marie Duff (Shameless, Suffragette), James Cosmo, Lucian Msamati (Game of Thrones), Mat Fraser, Ruth Wilson and Geoff Bell.
For those who don’t know, the forthcoming BBC series will be an adaptation of Philip Pullman’s, “His Dark Materials,” trilogy, which is comprised of novels, “Northern Lights,” “The Subtle Knife,” and, “The Amber Spyglass”.
The novels have sold over 18 million copies worldwide.
The trilogy centres around a young girl called Lyra who goes on a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. In the second novel she is joined by a boy named Will who has a knife that can cut windows between alternative worlds, and so their adventures together begin.
The adaptation which is set to follow the premise of the trilogy very closely, will be partly directed by Tom Hooper and written by Jack Thorne who has won Tony and Olivier awards for his stage work.
“Doctor Who,” producer Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter will also help to develop the BBC series, with author Philip Pullman completing the professional line-up as an executive producer.
Unfortunately, there is no air date for the, “His Dark Materials,” adaptation yet but you can be sure we will be the first to let you know as soon as we catch wind of one so keep your eyes peeled!
