Indie-pop, singer-songwriter Hoger, drops an exceptional new single “Same Mistakes.” The song eludes fractured feelings, from the damages of pain to the breakage of the heart in loving something that just cannot be fixed.
Despite facing heavy resistance against pursuing music, Hoger’s unmistakable resilience has left him blooming, having written with the likes of Yellow Claw, Cher Lloyd and Naaz. With over 500,000 streams alone on Spotify, it’s not hard to see why this Netherlands artist is doing so well.
“Same Mistakes” envelopes the honest message to yourself, the harsh reality that you can’t escape the magnetic pull of toxic relationships, even when you thought you had. Very relatable right?
“For some weird reason you love this person and that’s the beauty in the pain; you love and accept the way it breaks you up in pieces,” Hoger tells. The song entails the lethal push-and-pull when trying to navigate through fiery situations and the fight to resist the temptation even when it’s placed right in front of us.
The track compiles a wonderful collection of vocal and production elements. From the powerhouse, booming drums to rasping electric guitar solos, contrasted by a gentle-wave-like guitar that takes grasp of the verses. The echo of Hoger’s intimate, silken vocals, slowly building into entrancing high notes, to his gritty-indie-bellow in the chorus really displays an assemblage of vocal tones. The experience that comes with battling poison and love are beautifully carried through the track amongst all the contrasting yet complementing elements. The gripping song is both wildly strong and delicate, and well worth absorbing yourself into.
