Aussie rapper Iggy Azalea has finally released the visuals to the Quavo assisted track ‘Savior’ after teasing fans online this past week.
Fans went online to share their excitement for the new video assisting Iggy’s long awaited new music. This is the first single which Azalea has released since moving from her original label of Def Jam Recordings to Island Records. The change came after her second album ‘Digital Distortion’s’ release was hit by numerous delays.
The video for her comeback single is directed by the legendary Collin Tilley and takes us to church where we see Iggy look stunning as she battles with her inner demons. The video is a representation of when she experienced a bad time in her career and thought she was stuck in dark. However, now she has struggled through and looks to move forward after accepting her mistakes.
Iggy took to Twitter yesterday to talk about the video and open herself up to her followers. She Tweeted:
“Guys, I know its early days but I just want to say I’ve been scared to put this video out since filming it… at first I felt like it was because people wouldn’t understand what I was trying to say, visually – in the past I’ve stumbled and been misunderstood”
“But as I sat with it and showed friends, they understood my message clearly… just as you all seem to be now. I think what really scared me is showing you how dark of a place, in my own life and mind I was in. It’s hard to look back at that place…”
“Because I know I did alot of things to dig that hole for myself. I hid, I was defensive, I was ashamed, I was mad… and to see that time in my life symbolized in the video… I think it makes me uncomfortable, yes, but that’s also what Art is about… pushing beyond that.”
“I REALLY… feel it’s important to create platforms where we can be honest about our experiences and our ups and downs battling the demons we all have, be humbled by our faults and grow stronger and find power in speaking them aloud. thanks for understanding my message.”
Iggy Azalea is currently working on her new album ‘Surviving The Summer’ which is expected to be released at the end of summer/autumn after she’s built up some more momentum.
The music video is currently #4 on YouTube’s trending chart and has accumulated over 1.5 million views.
