A lot of amazing new music has been released recently, but at the forefront is Iggy Azalea with her brand new era for her second studio album (technically third as Digital Distortion was unreleased), titled In My Defense. This week saw the hip-hop artist make her album available for pre-order and also drop an instant grat single, titled “Just Wanna”. The song follows up her feature on VVAVES’ single, titled “Boys Like You”, as well as her solo release “Started“.
Iggy Azalea, real name Amethyst Kelly, has really earned her place in the rap music industry and she continues to prove herself time and time again. She’s had a bunch of various hits, namely “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX, “Black Widow” featuring Rita Ora, as well as featuring on Ariana Grande’s “Problem”. She’s one of these acts that keep us all guessing, unsure of which path she’s following, and so she creates her own path when it comes to music. She is now an independent artist, releasing the music she wants. Her first single, “Sally Walker”, did moderately well chart-wise, and the second single, “Started”, followed suit but managed to chart better in the UK. The songs are from her upcoming second studio album, titled In My Defense, which is bound to be epic since she had planned to drop Digital Distortion as her second studio album, but it got cancelled – so we know she’s just going to deliver as we’ve waited so long for her sophomore album. We’re so excited about the new LP, especially since we loved her EP release, last year, titled Survive The Summer.
This instant grat single, “Just Wanna”, is one of the album tracks from In My Defense, and is a promotional release for the album, which is officially released on 19 July 2019. The track seems to sample Salt-N-Pepa’s global hit “Push It” and is reminiscent of her early release “Pu$$y”.
Lyrically the song is all about sex wrapped up incredibly metaphorical lines that will have you shocked if you dive deep – she’s seriously thirsty. The chorus seriously leaves nothing to the imagination whilst the verses are much more teasing. What separates this song from every other song about sex is that there’s an intro and interlude where two guys can be heard talking to each other and during the interlude, they talk about condoms – go Iggy Azalea for promoting safe sex.
“Just Wanna” is available to download and stream right now, via Bad Dreams Records and Empire. Her official sophomore album, In My Defense, is available to pre-order now and will be released on 19 July 2019, and will contain the singles “Sally Walker” and “Started“, as well as this instant grat single “Just Wanna”. The album cover created quite the stir in the music industry as it shows Iggy Azalea covered in blood from a head wound, up against a car, showcasing the people in the world who aren’t able to speak up about their own traumas in their lives.
She also released In My Defense merchandise on her website store, including clothing containing the album artwork, a CD, a Vinyl, a cassette, and more clothing that contain self-defence imagery.
