Who would’ve thought that being an independent artist would allow Iggy Azalea to thrive? She’s been on total form recently and yesterday saw her release her third music video of 2019 as the lead artist, titled “F**k It Up” featuring Kash Doll, as well as dropping her official sophomore album, In My Defense.
Iggy Azalea, real name Amethyst Kelly, has really earned her place in the rap music industry and she continues to prove herself time and time again. She’s had a bunch of various hits, namely “Fancy” featuring Charli XCX, “Black Widow” featuring Rita Ora, as well as featuring on Ariana Grande’s “Problem”. She’s one of these acts that keep us all guessing, unsure of which path she’s following, and so she creates her own path when it comes to music. She is now an independent artist, releasing the music she wants. Her first single, “Sally Walker”, did moderately well chart-wise, and the second single, “Started”, followed suit but managed to chart better in the UK. The songs are from her second studio album, titled In My Defense, which was released yesterday, and it’s totally epic, but that is no surprise since she had originally planned to drop Digital Distortion as her second studio album, but it got cancelled – so the long wait for her sophomore album has definitely been worth it.
Featuring on this track is model and rapper, Kash Doll, whose real name is Arkeisha Knight. She went viral in 2017 when she released the song “For Everybody” which hit over 10 million YouTube views and now stands at an impressive almost 30 million views. She has released a mixtape and an EP, to date, and is planning to drop a new project in the near future.
This track, “F**k It Up”, can be found on Iggy Azalea’s new album, in My Defense. The release of the music video follows up her instant grat single release of “Just Wanna”. J. White Did It acts as the producer of the track, and we cannot get enough of this song.
The concept of this awesome music video comes from the 1997 comedy film Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. We’ve been waiting for another movie parody from Iggy Azalea and she sure does not disappoint. The opening sees Iggy Azalea as a receptionist at a hotel, and a guest comes to check-in who just happens to be her ex-classmate, who tells her about the high school reunion. She contacts Kash Doll and they decide they have to go. This is where the song truly starts, and they’re in a hotel room just doing their thing – which includes getting ready, looking at photos in a high school yearbook, and dancing to the chorus of the song.
When the first verse hits, they are seen in a pink convertible car. They soon pull up next to some dudes in a blue car who are checking out the female rappers, the two singers decide it’s a good time to start to twerk – only a family have pulled up next to them, with the parents in shock and the children are in awe. The next scene shows the outside of a drive-thru diner at night, where Iggy Azalea and her dancers twerk, with the female rapper’s style on point in every single way! We next watch these two talented hip-hop artists, dressed in business suits, sat at a booth trying to decide what to have – this is where Kash Doll truly shines with her verse and her performance; plus she has an acting segment, where she inquires if there is a businesswoman discount. The final scene sees them at the high school reunion, where they strut in with confidence and sass; they turn the whole event around, bringing a more party-like atmosphere, and they are also crowned too, by no other than Nikita Dragun, who looks simply stunning in this video. The music video ends with a message from Iggy Azalea stating, “Confidence is the best outfit. Rock it. Own it. Fuck it up, Sis!“.
