Legendary actor of stage and screen Sir Ian “Gandalf” McKellen, a self confessed I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here SUPER-FAN, appeared on the show’s ITV2 spin off I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here Now to show his support for one of the camp-mates…Union J’s George Shelley!
Skyping host Laura Whitmore live from LA, Sir Ian, of Lord of the Rings fame, told how he met all of Union J for the first time at the Pride of Britain awards in 2014, and since then he has seen them in concert and hung out with George a few times!
Nicknamed Gorgeous George or George of the Jungle, George has attracted a lot of attention from many viewers due to his looks, but Sir Ian assures us he’s got more than that and thinks it’s enough to take him “right to the end.”
“He is stronger than he seems. He may seem like a willowy youth but there is a man in there and he’ll stride along. He’ll be fine.”
Sir Ian also mentioned how much George loved hugging – something we’ve seen already on the show! He has already been caught cuddling up to Hollyoaks actress Jorgie Porter, and after only hours of separation from the rest of his team he made us all laugh when he welcomed professional boxer Chris Eubank in to a hug as well, after just one day in the camp!
“He hugs absolutely everybody but he’s got a lot of love in him has George.”
Though Sir Ian was quick to support George in his efforts in the jungle, he was even quicker to rule out that he would ever appear on the show and face some of the gruesome and grizzly bush tucker trials!
It’s a shame we’ll never see him in the jungle, but can you imagine how cool it must be having Sir Ian McKellen supporting you? That might offer George some comfort when he comes to face the Bush tucker challenges, including tonight’s trial, the “Ghost Train”, which he will be participating in with four other camp-mates (and probably welcoming new arrivals Spencer Matthews, Vicky Pattinson and Fearne McCann with some of his trade mark hugs, too!)
