Supermodel Iman has shared a beautiful throwback photo of David Bowie and herself, smiling happily together to celebrate their 24th wedding anniversary.
She took to Instagram to share the black-and-white picture, captioning it: “June 6th… 24th wedding anniversary #foreverlove”
This is Iman’s first anniversary without David as he died earlier this year at the age of 69 after an 18-month private battle with liver cancer.
Their love story is something special as they met in 1990 at a dinner party and Bowie maintained that it was love at first sight. “My attraction to her was immediate and all-encompassing,” he often said. “I couldn’t seep for the excitement for our first date. That she would be my wife, in my head, was a done deal.”
They married in 1992 and remained so up until Bowie’s death. Iman always maintained that the secret to their successful marriage was purely privacy from the public and keeping things between themselves.
“It’s like you do things that are separate – because he’s a musician and I do my own business – but home is private.”
Iman has a daughter from a previous marriage and David Bowie has a son, Duncan Jones from a previous relationship. But they also share their own beautiful 15 year old daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones.
Bowie was a loving husband and a loving father despite his diverse, rockstar personas over the past few decades. At home, he was just David Jones to Iman.
“As I always said: I fell in love with David Jones. I did not fall in love with David Bowie. Bowie is just a persona. He’s a singer, an entertainer. David Jones is a man I met,” she told the Independent in 2014.
We wish her and the family well and we think this is a beautiful way to remember the great David Bowie.
