Imelda May to Perform Irish National Anthem at Mayweather V McGregor Fight

In the early of Sunday morning boxing fans around the globe will tune into the billion pound fight between US boxer Floyd Mayweather and Irish MMA star Conor McGregor. The winner of the intriguing bout will take home the ‘Money’ belt, while both fighters are expected to pick up a purse of around £250 million each.

But it’s not only boxing taking place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on August 27th, as there will also be performances of the national anthems. And it has now been revealed that the Irish anthem ‘Amhrán na bhFiann’ will be sung by Irish star Imelda May. Imelda will perform the national anthem for her fellow Dubliner McGregor.

Speaking about performing on the world stage at the mega money clash, Imelda May says: “I am really honoured to be asked to perform the Irish National Anthem before the fight. I think he’s an incredible athlete and as a proud Dubliner I’ll be rooting for him on the night.”
