Wildcats assemble – the initial cast has been announced for the forthcoming production of High School Musical, coming to Salford’s Lowry Theatre.

Leading the cast will be Tobias Turley (Mamma Mia!) and Leonor Correia (Six) as Troy and Gabriella. They will be joined by Caitlin Tipping and Luke Bayer, who are currently starring in Titanique the Musical, as brother and sister duo Sharpay and Ryan.

The news was announced last night during the What’sOnStage Awards, followed by the first-ever public performance from the cast. Further casting will be revealed in due course.

Produced by Hope Mill Theatre and Chris Harper Productions with Lowry, High School Musical will run at the Lowry in Salford from 21 August to 13 September 2026. Based on the Disney Channel original movie, this will be the first UK non-replica production of High School Musical and marks 20 years since the film’s original release.

The venue’s Lyric Theatre is being reconfigured for the performances to create the ultimate East High experience. This will include an immersive basketball court setting, on-stage seating, and and extended playing area. Fans can expect to hear all the classics from the original movie including ‘We’re All In This Together’, ‘Breaking Free’, and ‘Stick To The Status Quo’.

High School Musical features a book by David Simpatico with music adapted, arranged and produced by Bryan Louiselle. The production will be co-directed by Hope Mill founders Joseph Houston and William Whelton.

The creative team also includes choreography by Aaron Renfree, set design by Andrew Exeter, sound design by Matt Peploe, video design by George Reeve, lighting design by Rory Beaton, costume design by Sophia Pardon, musical supervision by Katy Richardson, musical direction by Audra Cramer, casting by Pearson Casting, production management by Ammonite Studios, and general management by Chris Harper Productions.
