Singer-songwriter, Kiana Ledé, took to the stage at London’s Courtyard Theatre on Monday night, to hit us with her captivating vocals.
The perfect choice, DJ Annie Oh, – who is a resident DJ on Rinse FM – opened the show and set the tone for Ledé’s performance.
Ledé opened her show at 9pm with her song, ‘Get in the Way’, while Maurice Moore effortlessly played the piano.
The emerging artist dazzled us in her neon lime green dress and crisp white waist belt, completed with embellished platformed knee-high boots and medium-sized hooped earrings.
The 22-year-old performed hit songs, ‘EX’, ‘Wicked Games’, ‘Take It All’, ‘Shame’, ‘Fairplay’, and, ‘I Choose You’.
Ledé also beautifully covered Khalid’s ‘Location’, and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s ‘Come and See Me’.
The show ended with – of course – an encore, and Kiana shouting: “Okay b*tches I got one more!”
The show ended with Kiana’s acoustic version of Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’.
We caught up with Kiana to chat about the show, her favourite songs to perform and the upcoming movie she is working on!
Your show at The Courtyard Theatre was so good! You mentioned London is one of your favourite places, why is that?
Erm I don’t know. I feel like maybe the history partially. I love the people. I love Nandos a little too much so.
What is your favourite song to perform?
My favourite song to perform is probably ‘Wicked Games’. It’s always challenging to hit those notes at the end and erm… men are trash so I’m always in my feelings with that one.
What’s it like having fans sing your own songs back to you?
OMG It’s insane! It’s my favourite part, honestly. Cause the fact that people actually feel the lyrics enough to remember them is such a beautiful feeling.
You started off doing covers. At the gig you sang Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’, and PARTYNEXTDOOR’s, ‘Come and See Me’. Why did you choose these specific ones?
Er, I don’t know. Those are just my favourite covers I’ve done, I think. They were like the most imaginative. ‘Hotline Bling’ was like the first one that really blew up and give me my second shot so I think that’s why I do that one; I have a special place in my heart for it. With ‘Come and See Me’, I just love that song, it’s one of my favourite songs and I love the way it sounds with the piano. I love to embrace it and I love performing it.
Well we loved your covers. Can we expect any collaborations this year?
Yes you can, but I can’t tell you who!
So, will you be coming back to London any time soon?
Oh definitely! We’re coming back in August.
Are you doing another tour before the end of the year?
It will be this year probably!
What do you think 2019 will look like for you?
My 2019 overall will look like a sh*t tonne of music, more performances. I’ll be working on a movie, so I’ll be living in New York for a little bit, which will be amazing and a whole new experience. But yea, more growth and self-realisation. More happiness, more love, more friends, more light.
Can you tell us any more about the movie you’re working on?
I can’t tell you a lot about it. I can just tell you that there’s three lead black females – me being one of them. It’s gonna’ be a whirlwind of a movie for sure!
