On 24 June 2019, production duo GoldStone released their debut single and music video, titled “All I Know”, which they later followed up with a remix package on 15 July 2019. The song has since gone viral along with the music video which sees South African kids dancing to the track. The song officially features singer-songwriter Octave Lissner.
The duo are set to continue their viral hits as they plan to release more music in the future. We managed to grab an exclusive interview with GoldStone, where we chatted about “All I Know”, the music video, the remixes and their future plans.
Hi GoldStone, we are hoping you are doing well today. What have you been up to lately?
We’re doing great thanks. Really excited to have recently released our debut single!
For our readers who are just discovering you, can you introduce yourselves?
We are two French composers and producers living in the same area of the 10th arrondissement of Paris.
How did you two meet and how was the duo formed?
We actually met for the first time in a music shop in Paris. Manu was buying a nice drum machine and we started chatting. The rest is history!
Where does the name GoldStone come from?
The name came a long long time ago from a very very far away galaxy but it was also what my musician friends used to call me.
Your debut single is “All I Know”, can you tell us more about it?
One night, I had some friends over at my home and I took my yukulélé to play a little groove et voila! It came! I then did a demo and when Manu heard it he felt that he could do something with it and make it stronger!
How would you describe the song using five words?
“Give joy to children, thanks!” héhé five words!
Does this song showcase the style of music you plan to continue to release? What else can we expect from this duo?
Yes, this song is the kind of style we want to follow with and we are working on a new EP which we’ll release later this year.
The song is definitely catchy, why was it chosen as your debut single?
The answer is in the question!
It also recently received two remixes, by Breakbot and French Size, what do you make of these remixes?
We love Breakbot music and we are very proud to have his remix on the package.
French Size is a young producer working with La Plage Records and he did a remix club which we also love.
On top of the remixes, a music video for the song was released. What do you make of the music video?
A lot of people told us that they felt joy when they watched the video. It gives me thrills.
Where did the concept of the music video come from? And why was it decided to be filmed in Soweto, South Africa?
When Manu heard the song the first time he had the great idea to insert children voices into the chorus! When he said that we need kids dancing in the clip too, I showed him a video of kids dancing gwara gwara in a school. I came across that video one year ago on the net.
What do you hope to achieve in the coming years?
We just want to keep making music that people love to listen to. We are working on an EP for the coming months which we can’t wait for everybody to hear!
Who are your inspirations and why?
Inspiration comes from the artists we love, of course, but it could also come from everywhere else like a sound, a groove, an emotion, a smile…
And, finally, do you have a message for the people who have been listening to your debut single “All I Know”?
All I know is: give joy to children and the world will follow!
Thank you, GoldStone, for answering our questions about your debut single and the remixes which followed. We are excited to see where your career takes you especially as “All I Know” has gone viral.
“All I Know” is available to download and stream right now via 3ème Bureau, Wagram Music, and La Plage. The remix package has also been made available, and the duo is planning to release an EP soon, so keep your eyes out for that.
