Dina Torkia (known as ‘Tokio’) is a fashion and lifestyle vlogger who has over 350,000 subscribers on YouTube. Dina’s been around for a while; she first started making videos around 2011 while she was working at a call centre. Since then, she’s caused a massive stir in the beauty industry and even worked with the BBC on covering a beauty pageant for Muslim women. Although she’s not ‘new’ to YouTube, she is definitely not talked about enough!

Dina’s videos normally show her viewers the exciting events she gets to do and take part in. For example, her most popular video is a turban tutorial with Liberty London. Check out the video here:

She is also a designer and has her own blog called ‘Days Of Doll‘ as well as her own shop ‘DINA TORKIA‘. She specializes in statement scarves as well as other items of clothing that follow Islamic standards of modesty. She said “I think of dressing smartly as a way to represent myself and my religion. I don’t understand why you can’t be interested in fashion and be a Muslim at the same time.”

    Introducing: Dina Tokio 2

Last year, Dina worked with BBC3 and became the presenter for the documentary ‘Miss Muslim World’. It follows her travels to a Muslim Beauty Pageant called ‘World Muslimah’ which takes place in Indonesia every year. With contestants from around the world, Dina described it as an amazing event to be a part of where so many “different cultures can be seen”.

Dina has said before that she would never want to be seen as a “poster girl”, but she is extremely glad that her point of view as a young Muslim woman living in the UK can be brought forward into a more mainstream fashion world. Many young Muslim girls see her as a shining example of how you can always be yourself and express who you are and what you stand for, no matter what race or religion you are.
