Jaden Smith released his new mixtape, “The Sunset Tapes: A Cool Tape Story”, on November 17, 2018. The mixtape follows on from his studio album “SYRE”, which was released this time last year. To celebrate the anniversary, Smith surprised his fans on Twitter with his Cool Tape series.
He initially announced “The Sunset Tapes” on his Twitter on Friday, Oct, 5, as well as later releasing his project “Goku” on streaming sites.
Smith took to his Twitter and Instagram pages to post an open letter to dedicate his new album to the women in his life that have made an impact on him. The letter reads:
“I dedicate this album to the Females in my life, from the pretty girl crossing the street that I never got the chance to talk to or get out my head, to the girls that I see in my favourite movies that are way out of my league”

The mixtape has two songs on the tracklist that pay homage to the first album, SYRE. They are, ‘SYRE in Abbey Road’ and ‘Fallen Part 2’.
During an interview with Beats 1 Radio, Smith referenced his love for sunsets; he said: “The Sunset Tapes are really important to me because I’m obsessed with the sunset, and I need to watch the sunset every single day,”
Smith continued, “It’s like I’m watching the world start over, and I just need the sunset for some reason, and it has this weird connection with relationships and love almost because it’s like the sun sets, and then you’re like, ‘What do I do? Who am I gonna spend time with?’ It’s dark now. It’s almost like programmed into humans where it’s like, alright, it’s dark. I need to find shelter. I need to find loved ones and food.”
