Multi award winning singer/songwriter Jamie Lawson has today (March 29th) officially released his eagerly anticipated fifth studio album, titled ‘The Years In Between’, via Gingerbread Man Records/ADA.
This LP ishis most collaborative body of work to date, having worked with celebrated co-writers and friends, writing and recording the tracks whilst supporting superstar Ed Sheeran on a mammoth 46-date UK and EU stadium tour.
Themes of artistic struggle and doubt are evident throughout the record and most prominent on the track ‘Chasing’, which was penned in Nashville with Natalie Hemby and KS Rhodes. Together, they wrote the famous Nashville way: producing a constant stream of ideas, melody after melody, until that inspiration strikes.
Meanwhile the thought-provoking record closes out with one of the most personal songs Jamie Lawson has ever written; title track ‘The Years In Between’. The lyrics see the artist reminisce about time between his father’s death (he sadly passed away when Jamie was just 19) and the present day, touching on what could have been. The result is a touching, heartfelt and personal track.
Speaking about the album as a whole, Lawson says: : “It turns out with a tour the size of Ed’s you get a lot of days off, so I used that time on the road to rehearse new songs with the band, get in some studios and see what happened. As a result, parts of this album were recorded in Slane, South Shields, Berlin and the amazing La Frette Studios just outside Paris where Nick Cave and Arctic Monkeys have recorded. Everything was brought together in Dublin’s Camden Studios under the watchful eye of producer Ruadhri Cushnan. In many ways this is the most collaborative album I’ve made so far. From working with my band on the early demos, co-writing nearly every song and then working with Ruadhri and his musicians in Dublin, it’s been a fascinating process to come up with an album in this way and feel it’s still very much me.”
Jamie Lawson will be touring the album throughout the UK and Europe this April and May. The European leg of the tour will see US Country sensation Sarah Darling opening up on a select number of dates in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
