Canadian singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez has released a remix of her single ‘Body Count’ featuring Normani and Kehlani.
Adding even more female power to the unapologetic track, the ‘Body Count’ remix reinforces the message that women should not be judged for how many people they’ve been intimate with. As Jessie sings in the original and in the remix, “We gon’ love who we wanna love.”
It’s a known fact that women are often shamed for the number of people they’ve slept with, however, men are more likely to be celebrated for it. During her fierce verse, Normani demands respect for women everywhere as she sings “You were birthed by a woman, show some f**king respect, I like you much better when you shut up.”
Kehlani also references the double standards of female shaming, stating “if the tables turned and it was dollar signs per body, you would be one very rich and wealthy man”.
‘Body Count’ remix is a powerful feminist anthem from our new favourite girl gang, which sends out a clear and important message. We salute you, Jessie, Normani and Kehlani.
