After endless speculation online, it’s been confirmed that Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande will reunite for a new revival of Sunday in the Park with George.
The pair, who have been shining on screen in Wicked as Fiyero and Glinda, will take to the stage at London’s Barbican Centre in summer 2027. Jonathan is no stranger to performing on stage in London, having starred in the likes of Company, Cock, and most recently, Richard II at the Bridge Theatre. This will mark Ariana’s theatrical debut in the capital.
News of the Stephen Sondheim revival has been speculated online for a number of weeks. However, earlier today, Jonathan seemingly confirmed the news by sharing a picture on Instagram in front of Georges Seurat’s famous painting, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte,” which the show was inspired by.
Now, the production has officially been announced, along with further news regarding the creatives involved. Directed by Marianne Elliott, who previously worked with Jonathan on both Company and Cock, the production features design by Tom Scutt, known for his recent work on Into the Woods. Further cast and creative information will be announced in due course.

This will be the first major London production of Sunday in the Park with George in over 20 years. With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by James Lapine, the musical revolves around George, a fictionalised version of Georges Seurat, who immerses himself deeply in painting his masterpiece.
