Josh Devine is using his time off from drumming for One Direction to work with an organization that is close to his heart.

Devine first hinted at his partnership with Food For the Hungry (FH) in a short video released on Wednesday (July 6). The 30-second teaser let viewers know that the project would be revealed in it’s entirety the following week.

Today (July 12), Devine uploaded a video that documents his involvement with the organization. After attending an FH event in LA, he immediately knew he wanted to get involved. FH aims to end all kinds of poverty with a focus on reaching places that might otherwise go unnoticed. Devine decided to get involved by sponsoring a child from Rwanda named Evaride. Through FH, Devine was given the rare opportunity to travel to Rwanda and meet his sponsored child. While in Evaride’s city of Gisanga, Devine was learning more about the child with whom he regularly exchanged letters.

The trip ends with a celebration. The city of Gisanga will be graduating out of FH’s program this year! With the city stabilized, and out of extreme poverty, they no longer required the aid of the organization. This also meant that Evaride would not be sponsored by Devine anymore.

The story doesn’t end here. The video closes with a call to action. FH is partnering with a city in East Rwanda called Nyagihanga. The city is in need of schools, access to cleaner water, and healthcare for its children just like Evaride. Devine hopes to see Nyagihanga achieve the same result as Gisanga because of their partnership with FH.

Devine is now the sponsor of this city and is asking for your help. You can be a part of the solution by sponsoring one of over 1,000 children who are currently in the program and help lift this city out of extreme poverty.
