Singer and songwriter extraordinaire Julia Michaels is back with her new single ‘Lie Like This’.
Written by Julia along with Stefan Johnson, Michael Pollack and Jordan K. Johnson, ‘Lie Like Me’ is a gorgeous bop which sees the songstress all loved up. “He says I’m pretty upside down, pretty right side up too” she begins, delivering iconic lyrics which were actually inspired by her boyfriend JP Saxe.
“I was laying in bed with my boyfriend, JP, and I was sitting in front of him, so my back was on his stomach, and I turned backwards to give him a kiss. And he was like, “You’re pretty upside down.” And I turned back around and he goes, “You’re pretty right side up too,” Julia told Zane Lowe on Apple Music.
“And I was like, “That’s the start of a song.” I was like, “Absolutely, I’m going to put that in a song.” And I brought it to The Monsters and Michael Pollack and it was quarantine time I think. So they’re writing in quarantine and, yeah, that’s pretty much how it started. And then it just came together really effortlessly from there.”

‘Lie Like This’ follows on from a string of successful collaborations including ‘If The World Was Ending’ with JP Saxe, ‘Heartless’ with Diplo and Morgan Wallen, and ‘Peer Pressure’ with James Bay. It marks the beginning of a new era for the acclaimed singer and songwriter, who is currently working towards her debut album.
Speaking about her album, Julia told Zane Lowe: “I’ve only ever done EPs from the time I put out ‘Issues’ to now, and so this is going to be my first actual album. I’m going to be 27 this year. I’m like, ‘Okay, it’s time. I have a topic that I know well, that I want to talk about, which is love.’ I’m no longer a bitter when it comes to it anymore. I’m like, ‘Oh, love can be relearned. It can be beautiful.’ And I want to talk about it.”
Here at CelebMix, we’re long-time fans of Julia and we can’t wait for her to finally release a full-length record. If ‘Lie Like This’ is anything to go by then the singer-songwriter is going to continue blessing us with relatable bops which provide the soundtrack to our lives.
