What do you get when one of the hottest female vocalists in the world collaborates with one of the most successful female rappers of all time? One heck of a feisty bop, that’s what!
The internet was blessed earlier today when Katy Perry dropped a brand new single called ‘Swish Swish’, which just so happens to feature Nicki Minaj! The track is the third offering to be taken from Katy’s forthcoming album, Witness.
Produced by Duke Dumont, ‘Swish Swish’ is a house-inspired song which also samples Fatboy Slim’s ‘Star 69’. Katy begins the song in a sassy manner, and it’s clear to hear that she has no time for any irrelevant people (“Don’t you come for me, no, not today,”) before telling her haters to ‘swish swish bish’. Nicki comes in during the latter half of the song and slays with another fierce rap. She also proves that the two are friendship goals, with the ultimate final line: “I only rock with Queens, so I’m makin’ hits with Katy.”
There’s been a lot of speculation online as to who the song is about, but we’ll stick to just enjoying ‘Swish Swish’ as a ‘F*** You’ anthem against anyone who’s ever wronged you.
Listen to ‘Swish Swish’ below.
‘Swish Swish’ follows on from Katy’s ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ featuring Skip Marley, and ‘Bon Appetit’ featuring Migos. All three will appear on her forthcoming fifth album Witness, which was announced this week along with some interesting album artwork. The album is set to see Katy reflecting “on the changes in her own life and in the world around her, delivering songs that both challenge and inspire.”
Nicki Minaj has also been busy on the musical front, appearing on a string of huge tracks as well as releasing new personal material. ‘Regret In Your Tears’ and ‘No Frauds’ were released earlier this year, whilst you can also hear Nicki spitting fire on Jason Derulo’s ‘Swalla’, David Guetta’s ‘Light My Body Up’ and DNCE’s ‘Kissing Strangers’.
