Here at CelebMix, we love nothing more than introducing our readers to new, up and coming talent. This time around, we would like you to get acquainted with someone who is, in our opinion, a hope for the pop music landscape. A hope to make pop big again, a hope to make pop “great again”, so to say.
The name of the artist that will most certainly fill the cold void left by the winter-y weather is KELLA. The American singer used to be a songwriter for artists such as ARSTON (“Fool” and “Never Let You Go”) but is now ready to set foot into the spotlight all by herself.
Obviously, the Florida native does not come unprepared. Quietly, the singer-songwriter had been honing her craft in Nashville and London with artists from all around the world. Inspired by the classic sound of the 90s, which was helmed by producer Max Martin and his protegees (Britney, Backstreet Boys, N*Sync), KELLA decided at one point that it was time to go to Stockholm to fully develop her sound and artistic style.
Which leads to the now. Today is the day, that KELLA releases her debut single titled “Trainwreck”. And it is pure pop bliss. Filled with synths and an atmosphere similar to the one created by Carly Rae Jepsen’s “E-MO-TION”, “Trainwreck” brings pop back to the top. The driving bass line and the climatic chorus just add more joy to the mix.
Talking about her sound, KELLA explained that she is “a product of the 90s, arguably when the best pop music was around, with Swedish producers at the forefront of the soundtrack to my youth. This approach of merging cultures and backgrounds was something I wanted to emulate and as a result brought me to now.”
The song itself, while being an uplifting anthem musical-wise, deals with the second-guessing of a relationship and is inspired by the singer’s observations of love as well as personal experiences.
“My song “Trainwreck” is inspired by real life situations“, the singer told us via e-mail. “I’m a passionate person, but with passion, there’s always a good and bad side. Fights, love, making up. It’s not that I had a habit of falling for boys that were bad for me, but it’s more reflecting and knowing that I’m just as guilty as they are in these situations. It’s admitting that we enjoy the back and forth, we’re ignoring our consciences, and we’re just continuing to be in the excitement of the moment whether it lasts or doesn’t.“
KELLA is pure pop with a story to tell. And we could not be any more excited about what is to come in the future.
