Dance-pop mainstays Krewella team up with Asian-American duo Beauz on their new single/music video, “Never Been Hurt.”
Krewella explains, “The inspiration of ‘Never Been Hurt’ comes from the feeling of the body and heart slowly opening its doors again after being calloused by the pain of love. Surrendering to intimacy is a leap of faith, and in a way, memories of past loss or trauma become erased when we are ready to experience love again in its pure innocence. We wrote the song a few years ago and have been waiting for the right vibe to bring the song to the finish line. As sisters, we found it sweet to be collaborating with brothers Bernie and Johan Yang, and despite being confined to the internet during the pandemic, we managed to have a seamless flow of sending versions of the song back and forth.”
While according to Beauz, “Krewella has been one of our favorite artists that were responsible for inspiring us to make music. It’s so cool to work with the sisters since we are a brother duo. When we received ‘Never Been Hurt’ from the girls, its dark and contemporary style, along with its story, immediately resonated with us. After several back and forths, we were able to come up with an edgy vocal chop lead complemented by an infectious bassline, as well as contributing our own vocals into this dream collaboration. We absolutely can’t wait to perform this gem along with the girls on stage when we return to the US.”
Krewella, aka sisters Jahan and Yasmine, burst onto the scene in 2012 with their EP, Play Hard, amassing over 150 million streams on Spotify, and featuring their platinum single, “Alive.” Since then, they’ve continued releasing red-hot hits such as “Live for the Night” and “Enjoy the Ride.” Along with appearing on Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list, Krewella has performed at elite music festivals around the world, including Coachella, Lollapalooza, EDC Las Vegas, Ultra Music Festival, and iHeartRadio Music Festival, as well as their own headlining tours.
Made up of brothers Bernie and Johan, Beauz began by dazzling the world with their official remixes, followed by releasing “Count The Hours” with Armada, which went viral on Douyin and set the stage for Beauz’s initial international tour of North America and Asia. They followed with “Feel The Light” via Spinnin’ Records’ Sinnnin’ Asia. 2020 saw Beauz host the Blockeley festival, followed by dropping their EP, BEAUZWORLD Vol. 1, which jumpstarted their BEAUZ IMPERIAL TOUR.
“Never Been Hurt” opens on shimmering, pulsating colors rolling into a potent, thumping rhythm topped by lush, voluptuous vocals. A fat, vibrating bassline fills the tune with a galloping cadence as dreamy harmonies imbue the tune with echoing sonic hues.
Beauz’s melodic rapping flow shifts the lyrical movement and then returns to the plush, deluxe voices of Krewella.
With “Never Been Hurt,” Krewella struts their posh, erotic voices, along with their talent for turning out polished dance-pop.
