Lea Michele just gave her fans an early Christmas present! The singer has just announced her first-ever Christmas album, ‘Christmas in The City’ to be released on October 25.
According to People, the upcoming album is inspired by her childhood memories of Christmas in New York City, where she grew up.
“It was always my dream to make a Christmas record,” Michele, stated to People. “Christmas is so special to me. It’s such an important time of year for me and my family that I have so many incredible memories from.”
The tracklist to ‘Christmas in The City’ includes both old and new Holiday favourites such as ‘It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,’ ‘Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,’ ‘Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,’ ‘Silent Night,’ ‘Silver Bells,’ ‘O Holy Night’ and ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman?’ from Frozen.

You may recognize some of the songs from Michele’s Glee days, and the actress and singer is also accompanied by two of her former Glee co-stars on the new album. Her best friend Jonathan Groff has teamed up with her to sing ‘I’ll Be Home For Christmas’ and this song has a special meaning to them. “We would often have to do Christmas benefits and stuff like that in New York so that song in particular has very special meaning to us,” Michele tells People.
Michele’s other Glee co-star, and close friend, Darren Criss is featured on ‘White Christmas’. The two singers went on tour together last year and Michele tells People that it feels “natural that I would have him come on the record with me.”
In addition to Groff and Criss, Michele also sings ‘Angels We Have Heard on High’ with Broadway performer Cynthia Erivo. Michele notes that it was particularly important for her that her album had a Broadway feel to it because New York and Broadway are such an important part of her history.
Jonathan Groff and Darren Criss are not the only Glee people who have reunited with Michele on her album. Music producers Adam and Alex Anders, who produced all the musical numbers on the show, have teamed up with Lea Michele again to give her Christmas album the “very vibrant and bright and powerful sound” they created during their Glee days.
Although the upcoming album has many covers, Michele also included an original track titled ‘Christmas in New York’.
“I wrote this song as my real love letter,” she says to People. “It’s the anthem of the album, and it just highlights all of the special things New York has to offer. It paints this beautiful picture of New York, but it also is really about what it means to be with your family and friends and engaged in that holiday spirit.”
‘Christmas in The City’ is available for pre-order on Friday, September 20.
