Indie electronic meets darkwave band LEVVELS just released their single and video for “Personal” after their debut release “Keep Me Alive.” The band, who draws influence from forward-thinking game changers such as Depeche Mode, is showcasing their ability to craft modern songs with a heavy dose of 80s nostalgia.
In “Personal,” LEVVELS paints the uncomfortable scene of getting vulnerable and opening yourself up to someone new. “The pleasure and pain, the back and forth, the passion and distraction, the friction and the harmony,” confides Ty of the band. Produced by acclaimed production duo HEAVY, the track features mysterious looming vocals over 80s darkwave synths and a deep driving bassline that pulls you in for a dramatic effect.
The accompanying visuals for “Personal” are seductive yet dangerous. Lead singer Ty is seen grasping for a lover that is just out of reach. She is mysterious and provocative and the moody lighting of the visuals highlights the pain that can come from opening yourself up to someone.
The trio craft relatable and raw music that takes influence from “duality of our lives, the forgotten, the downtrodden, the dreamers. We prefer the heightened energy of night over day, individualism over conformity, counterculture over pop-culture. We are inspired by anti-heroes and iconoclasts, the people, stories, music, and events that started with someone speaking their mind, truth to power. We take inspiration from those that have created spaces for people that felt like they don’t fit in, like they’re not where they want to be, but that are always searching for their place, their home,” confides bassist Brad. LEVVELS have seen early success being added to Spotify’s coveted New Noise and Alternative Beats playlists. With more music to come we can’t wait to hear what is next from this exciting innovative electronic rock band.
