Rising singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi has unveiled the powerful visual for his latest single ‘Someone You Loved’, in partnership with organ donation charity Live Life Give Life.
Directed by Phil Beastall (best known for his £50 Christmas advert which went viral last year), the visual stars BAFTA award winning actor Peter Capaldi, who is a distant relative of Lewis.
The poignant visual depicts an emotional story between two families who have been brought together through organ donation. Peter plays the role of a man who is dealing with grief after losing a loved one. Flashbacks of their final moments together are intertwined with scenes of Peter visiting a family.
We soon come to realise that the mum of the family had undergone a heart transplant, receiving the heart of Peter’s on screen partner. Whilst the visual is utterly heartbreaking, there is also an underlying element of hope throughout which emphasises just how courageous and live changing donating an organ can be.
Lewis was keen to create a video with a powerful message of loss and hope, and decided to focus on organ donation after his mum, who is a nurse, introduced him to Live Life Give Life.
Speaking of the themes and personal nature of the video, Lewis comments; “I wanted to do something a bit different to what I had before and try take the opportunity to raise awareness for something that I thought was deserving”.
He continues “Coincidentally, while working on the video, I received a message from a fan of my music, Jim who is currently on the organ transplant list himself. For me, this solidified how important it is to try and raise awareness for this subject in order to help Jim and the many others just like him”.
Speaking about Peter’s involvement in the video, Lewis said: “Despite being related, prior to the video I’d only met Peter once when he came along to a show of mine in London last year. It was such a massive honour getting to work with him and director, Phil Beastall on it over the two days we shot. He’s absolutely incredible in the video and I’m so proud of how it turned out.”
