The unstoppable Scottish hitmaker Lewis Capaldi has unveiled the official music video for his heartbreaking and already a chart breaking single ‘Someone You Loved’, from the number one hit debut album, ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’.
Shot outside London, the video was directed by Ozzie Pullin, who has previously worked with the likes of Jax Jones and Favela. This latest video features Capaldi himself and is a follow up to the previously released visual starring Scottish actor Peter Capaldi.
The 22-year-old singer-songwriter delivered the new music video yesterday and it was premiered on YouTube for the first time. The video sees Lewis himself starring as a heartbroken guy after he comes out of a relationship with his on-screen girlfriend and is experiencing the immediate aftermath of the breakup. Lewis is shown remembering their past moments while wandering on the streets, wanting to chase her but his friends and strangers hold him back.

Lewis explained in a press release about his inspiration to create another video for the song. He stated:
“I wanted to show another side to the song. For me, the video is about the people we surround ourselves with that have the strength when we don’t and help us continue to make the right decisions in moments of fear or hardship. In the moment, we often choose to ignore friends and family, thinking our judgment is better, but of course in hindsight when you’re in that headspace it’s almost impossible to make the right decisions.” .
This chart-conquering song “Someone You Loved” first came out with an emotional music video featuring actor and distant relative Peter Capaldi. The original video featured Peter playing the role of a grieving husband who loses his wife to illness. At the end of the video, he listens to the beating heart of his wife in the body of another after donating her organs. The video features the “The Live Life Give Life” charity campaign at the end of the video and features some recipients of organ donors saying thank you despite not being able to thank their donors in person. The video helped to raise awareness about organ donation.
Well, Lewis Capaldi’s fans have absolutely loved the latest video and they are crying in a cool way! (see what I did there!). Some of the fans have mentioned their appreciations on Twitter about the new take on the song, while others revealed that it pulled on their heartstrings just like the original video. One of the fans commented, “The old one ripped my heart out, this one stepped on it but it’s okay I guess.”
Lewis Capaldi’s voice is undeniably powerful and rich with a smooth texture, and his vulnerable tone surely has the power to melt the hearts of his listeners. ‘Someone You Loved’ is from Capaldi’s debut album, ‘Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent’, which is the fastest-selling UK debut of 2019 with over 90,000 albums sold in the first week. Following the release of the breakout single in November 2018, ‘Someone You Love’ has now been certified as Platinum by the RIAA. The song topped the UK official singles chart unbreakably for seven weeks. Currently, the single is at No.15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has already topped Spotify’s Today’s Top Hits!
Lewis recently announced his second North American tour, 2019 for this fall and also touring in March 2020 for the UK and Ireland fans’ that sold out in merely a few seconds, making him the first artist in history to sell out arenas prior to the release of a debut album.
Well, Lewis is indeed a hitmaker and a record-breaker and we can’t wait to see what he serves us next in our music pallette.
