Lyric changes in One Direction concerts are always a game of ‘Did he really or are we hearing things?”
It had been a while since we had a Louis and Harry lyric change during a concert, but it looks like the two are back in action after tonight’s Toronto show.
Larry lyric changes were something the boys used to do quite frequently, some of them were funny, some a bit snarky, but most often they were little hints to us and reminders to each other that even though they may not be able to scream their love to the public, they could find ways to show it subtly.
With rumors that swirled that the boy’s management company went as far as to limit how they interact, even on stage, and a tweet from Harry himself that a lot of us took as confirmation, fans paid very close attention to the lyrics of every song with a hint of romance behind it. We waited to see when Harry and Louis would hit us with a curveball that reminded us of everything we believed in, reminded us of the love we saw bloom between the two.
August 20th, during the middle of one of the longest years in the One Direction/Larry fandom, we got the lyric change to end all lyric changes. It trumps
I can’t compete with my boyfriend, he’s got 27 tattoos.
It even trumps
I’m in love with Lou and all his little things.
The lyrics tonight were changed by Louis and instead of singing 18 as it’s written, he threw us a curveball
I have loved HIM since we were 18
Wait. What?
I have loved HIM since we were 18
Yep. That’s probably the last thing Larry fans heard before they were overtaken with loud sobs and inhuman noises as they coped with the heart warming sound of Louis saying those 8 words.
Is there any way to know with 100% certainty that he says him and not you? No, I suppose there isn’t, but in times like this where things have been so up an down with the fandom, we could all use a little uplifting. A little secret message from the boys to let us know they’re okay.
So f you hear “him” in the video and you want to believe Louis said it, join those of us who heard it that way too. If you hear “you” and want to send us hearing aids, so be it!
Take from the video what you will, but if you need to find me, I’ll be curled up in my dino blanket, wishing my salt was with me in my big chair, watching fetus videos of the boys, and crying in Larry is real for the rest of the night.
