If you ask a fan of Louis Tomlinson what their favorite thing about him is, most people would reply that it has something to do with the size of his heart and the way he loves unconditionally. Louis, along with Jamie Scott and Liam Payne took that love into their hands in a special way in 2015 when they got together to write the song, Home.
Liam said, of Louis while writing Home,”Having seen different things he’s gone through and different stuff this year – and obviously, I’ve written a lot of songs with him – he can really get into that sensitive mindset to write songs, which is pretty cool.”
Home is obviously a song that means just as much to the lads – specifically Liam and Louis, as it does to their fans and that is why Project Home is so important. Another reason Project Home is so important is that it gives fans the ability to appreciate the boys both as a band and as individuals.
We’ve given you the difference before between Webster’s definition of sunshine and that of a One Direction fan. Webster says that sunshine is warmth and light given off from the sun, or a spot where the sun’s light shines. One Direction fans say that sunshine is housed within the greeney-blue eyes and wide smile of Louis Tomlinson.
Webster’s definition of sunshine is as follows.
sunshine: noun
a : the sun’s light or direct rays
b : the warmth and light given by the sun’s rays
c : a spot or surface on which the sun’s light shines
While a One Direction fan’s is this:
sunshine: a person
a: the little one with the cheekbones
b: the boy from Doncaster
c: Louis Tomlinson
Louis Tomlinson began to personify sunshine from the moment he was born, brightening the lives of each person who loved him. Since then, he’s weathered through storms, stood bright when other people wished he’d dim, and risen each morning even when the darkness of the night before threatened to swallow him whole. Louis has dared to survive – not just to exist – and in that survival, one of the most inspirational people was given room to flourish. Louis lit a way for not only himself but the millions of people around the world who look up to him.
And he did it without even realizing it.
Much like the sun that still shines even when we can’t see it, Louis gives off an air of safety and light to anyone who needs it. Be it by donating time and money to charity, taking a family going through a hard time and giving them memories to hold dear, or standing up for One Direction and their dedicated fans – Louis is always spreading kindness and positivity to the world without asking anything in return.
While 2015 showcased some of Louis’ most charitable stories, it also brought some of the most vile and untrue attacks on his character. Instead of fighting fire with fire, he took the days that attempted to destroy him and made life better for other people instead. He kept shining, even when people repeatedly tried to put out his light.
So to Louis, to One Direction’s sunshine…
Thank you for not only giving fans a sense of home but for providing it with a bright and vibrant light too. Thank you for showing that strength isn’t always an outward act of bravery – sometimes it’s a dim light that shines even when the odds are against it. Thank you for smiling and showing all of us that as long as you’re doing what makes you happiest in the world, that the rest of it will all fall into place.
Thank you for writing lyrics to a song that allowed people to come to terms with who they are, and more than that, thank you for promoting the song in a way that proved it’s importance to you too. Home isn’t always a structure with four walls, in fact, most times it’s a series of memories with people who make you feel brave, strong, and loved. Home isn’t a building, it’s an existence where you feel like you’re good enough – it’s a time in your life where you look back and feel happiness at the depth of who you are – and you have become home to millions of people all across the world.
Thank you for standing up for young men and women who didn’t know how to use their voice to stand up for themselves. For letting people know that sometimes, being who you are takes courage, and if people needed a place to draw strength from – you provided it.
The first time, after a long winter, when you feel the sun warm your skin is a feeling hard to describe. For your fans, getting to know you feels a lot like that, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
‘I’ll make this feel like home’
