For over three decades, revered singer/songwriter Louise has evolved before our eyes. From a member of British R&B girl group Eternal – the first all-female act to sell over a million copies of an album in the UK – to a trail-blazing pop recording artist in her own right, Lou has continuously bucked trends, defied critics, and marched to the beat of her own drum to become one of the countries most enduring performers.

In the five years since the release of her last studio album ‘Heavy Love’, the Lewisham born star has wowed theatre audiences in London’s West End, penned the Sunday Times bestseller ‘You’ve Got This and Other Things I Wish I Had Known’, become the face of high street fashion retailer Peacocks, and in 2023 celebrated 30 years in music with the launch a brand new Greatest Hits collection.

This week she makes a triumphant return to the dance-floor with the unveiling of her fifth solo record ‘Confessions’ – a sleek, confident, and emotionally resonant collection of songs that bridge her ’90s pop roots with a contemporary electro-pop edge.

Marking a bold and personal evolution in her musical journey, ‘Confessions’ finds Louise in a place of reclamation, embracing new sounds and vibrant sonic flavours to create an innovative, and fresh pop-dance inspired soundscape, shaped in collaboration with a team of top writers and producers including Jon Shave (Charli XCX), Anya Jones (Sugababes), MNEK (FLO), Karen Poole (Kylie Minogue), Tre Jean-Marie (Mabel), Miranda Cooper (Girls Aloud), and Hannah Robinson (Goldfrapp).

From the pulsating synths on lead single ‘Confession’, to the euphoric, sample-laced ‘Get Into It’ (borrowing from Janet Jackson’s ‘Throb’), the album channels major club energy, coming correct with scores of sharp hooks, shimmering synths, hard beats and rhythmic basslines that become more and more addictive with each listen.

Aligning with contemporary pop innovators Charli XCX, Dua Lipa, Robyn and Kylie Minogue, the LP’s strength lies in how cohesively it builds a sonic identity – one that feels relevant in today’s landscape, but true to Louise’s maturity as an artist.

With lyrical themes of emotional clarity, empowerment, heartbreak, rebirth and re-claiming self-worth running throughout, the record is without question the singers most personal project to date.

Tracks like ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’ and ‘Love Me More’ read like journal entries – honest, defiant, and unfiltered, whilst the rebellious feel of ‘Follow Me’ and the alluring strut of ‘Manifesting’ showcase a fierce and feisty side to the two-time BRIT nominee that we’ve perhaps not seen, or heard from her on record before. Unabashed and unafraid to speak her truth, Louise isn’t just reminiscing or singing pretty love songs anymore; she’s rewriting and reclaiming her narrative one pop bop at a time!

    Louise

Rich in a wealth of well-written, emotionally astute pop bangers, ‘Confessions’ is more of a forward looking declaration of reinvention and intent than a comeback album or a nostalgic trip down memory lane, with an empowered Louise sounding more confident and self-assured than ever, eschewing trends in favour of creating a space that feels authentic and bold.

Fresh, sophisticated, playful and fun, the albums embrace of contemporary pop sensibilities, along with its reflective lyrics and edgy dance beats, makes it a noteworthy addition to Lou’s discography that is sure to appeal to both new and devoted listeners.
