South Florida’s nu-pop, melodic rap duo ET Boys are back with another gem of a song, the lyric video for “This Is Us,” via Wake Up! Music, demonstrating that the ET Boys’ creative genius knows no bounds.
Frontman Tac Boy shares, “‘This Is Us’ is this song about how the feelings that we have for others can change, but never go away. Our songs are born from experiences which we no doubt share with our listeners. I hate doing quotes because I prefer that each person feel the song in whatever way they need and wish.”
The ET Boys are two Latino brothers, Tac Boy and Sharkeyes, with the latter sibling taking care of the music, and the former sibling composing lyrics and handling vocals. Their sound, more often than not called nu-pop/melodic rap, encompasses an array of innovative stylistic mixtures, including tinctures of emo, synth-pop, alt-rock, R&B, conscious rap, and dream-pop – as well as everything from sleazy synthesizers to soul with hints of gospel.
In 2022, the ET Boys exploded on the scene with the release of their debut single/music video, “Sober,” racking up more than 700,000 streams on Spotify and 394,000 views on YouTube. Since then, they’ve dropped a steady succession of hits, such as “wyrm (Will You Remember Me),” “Coca Boys,” and “Drift Banger,” along with last year’s debut album, Forever Night.
Distinguished by their organic musical authenticity and the alpha-theta syncopation-inducing voice of Tac Boy, ET Boys keep evolving, adding fresh sonic nuances to their inimitable sound.
“This Is Us” rolls out on a potent trap-like rhythm topped by dirty guitars and a fat, vibrating bassline, infusing the tune with alt-rock dynamics. Tac Boy’s dreamy, soulful vocal line imbues the lyrics with a vague oil and water feel, yielding and elastic, yet intensely passionate with hints of unease.
The grimy guitar notes give the song textures of emotional turmoil as Tac Boy’s voice delivers words of thrilling despair above the musical gale.
Damn! With “This Is Us,” the ET Boys center in on a dark, grungy, ultra-catchy sweet spot, highlighted by the poignant vocals of Tac Boy.
