Machine Gun Kelly recently teamed up with Trippie Redd for ‘genre : sadboy,’ a 10-track EP with no shortage of emotion. The project marks Machine Gun Kelly’s first multi-track project since ‘mainstream sellout,’ which hit streaming platforms back in 2022. Although it was just released on March 29, ‘genre : sadboy’ has caught the attention of millions already.
Days after sharing the EP with listeners, the duo have now released the official music video for one of the standout tracks on the album, “beauty,” which samples Frou Frou’s classic 2002 hit, “Let Go.”
The visual abstractly embodies the track’s emotional lyrics through a plethora of different scenes, including some shot by an infrared camera with a listed recording date of March 18, 2024. Machine Gun Kelly inevitably shows off his new blacked-out tattoos on his chest and arms shortly after Trippie Redd appears alongside him at the start of the visual.
“Beauty” captures Machine Gun Kelly’s complicated relationship with drugs and addiction. The rapper also highlights the fear of the drugs he’s taking being laced with fentanyl, a lethal drug that has killed other stars.
As Machine Gun Kelly gets into the raw emotions of relapsing with drugs after 21 days sober, Trippie Redd opens up about having a hard time letting go of a complicated romantic relationship.
The “beauty” music video exudes creativity from start to finish. At one point, Machine Gun Kelly takes off on a Ducati motorcycle while singing about the urge to escape the boredom of suburbia. Another scene captures Trippie Redd laying down on a platform alongside an old tv with no signal while Machine Gun Kelly dangles from the ceiling upside down above him. The visual eventually concludes with a robotic baby toy moving on its own before the screen fades to black.
“Beauty” is the second official music video that was released from ‘genre : sadboy,’ following the visual for the project’s lead single, “lost boys.”
