Bay Area indie-pop artist Magsy introduces his latest single, “NOISY MIND,” which follows on the heels of his debut EP, R U STILL WATCHING, released last year.
Talking about “NOISY MIND,” Magsy shares, “There’s self-deprecation in the verses, but acceptance in the chorus. It gives me the same knot in my stomach every time I listen to it, so I know it’s real.”
The lyrics recount the dissolution of a relationship and the painful realization that what went wrong mirrors “all the things you can’t change about yourself in a snap of a moment.”
Born into a biracial family, while growing up Magsy experienced questions of belonging and often felt isolated because he didn’t neatly fit into society’s preprogrammed categories. At the age of 14, he began writing songs to liberate his emotions and thoughts. Later, he traveled to South Korea, where he wrote for K-Pop stars, followed by collaborating with emerging artists in Los Angeles.
“NOISY MIND” opens on gentle, luminous colors, followed by the entry of a delicious, low-slung rhythm made up of a fat bassline and crisp, tight percussion. Magsy’s lush voice imbues the lyrics with tender nuances and stylish flavors. It’s one of those deluxe, alluring voices, rife with passion and affecting timbres.
On the chorus, the harmonics mousse up to bright pop colors as Magsy’s vocals escalate to a redolent falsetto, full of radiant, glowing textures. Magsy can sing!
The soon-to-be-released video depicts Magsy sitting at a bus stop, listening to music. As he sits in the shadows, he’s ruminating, trying to quiet the noise of his thoughts. Eventually, he jumps up and begins dancing – attempting to escape the overwhelming flow of reflections flooding through him. In the end, he watches as the sun rises.
Vibrant and oh so good, “NOISY MIND” merges a luscious indie-pop melody with the expressive and irresistible voice of Magsy.
