After a staggering 15 weeks at the top of the UK charts, Drake has finally been dethroned from the number one spot.

Many have tried and failed to topple the ‘One Dance’ singer, but it’s Major Lazer, Justin Bieber and MØ who have successfully ended his reign at the top. ‘Cold Water‘, which was released last Friday, has entered straight in at the top of the charts.

It’s only the second song to shoot straight to number one this year, following Zayn’s ‘Pillowtalk’. This is a novel concept considering that most number one songs can take weeks to reach the top spot these days.

According to the Official Charts, ‘Cold Water’ notched up 102,000 combined sales, including 5.56 million streams and 47,000 downloads. The track is Justin’s fourth UK number one, however, it’s Major Lazer and MØ’s first time at the top spot.

Speaking to the Official Charts, Major Lazer said: “We can’t believe we have our first Number 1 and are amazed at the support from the UK and are so thankful for the amazing Because team that we work Major Lazer records with. We have a lot more coming for you this summer!”

Not only has Drake’s ‘One Dance’ a collaboration with Wizkid and Kyla, lost its spot at number one, it also slips to number five in the charts. With the track spending 15 weeks at the top, it is officially the second longest consecutive number one in UK history, equalling Wet Wet Wet’s 1994 hit ‘Love Is All Around’. Drake was one week short of equalling Bryan Adams’ record breaking 16 week stint at the top.

Whilst we’re a little bit disappointed that Drake missed out on a new record, we are pretty relieved to finally have a new song at the top of the charts.

How long will Major Lazer, Justin Bieber and MØ hold on to their number one for? Will Drake be able to regain his place at the top next week? He still hasn’t released a music video for ‘One Dance’ – now would be the perfect time to drop it, as it could send him soaring back to the top again!
