Mali-Koa has just released her latest single titled “Pretend” on December 7th. It has been almost one year since the singer-songwriter released her very first single “Honest”, so we are more than excited to receive new content from her!
This talented artist first put her name out into the world when she auditioned for The Voice (AU) in 2012. Two years later, she moved from Sydney, Australia to London, England to pursue her dream of being in the music industry. Since then, the powerhouse has been working hard to create beautiful and endearing music for us.
Her new song explores the feelings of the heartbreak that comes after the ending of a relationship. In a recent tweet, Mali-Koa goes more in depth about the meaning behind the song:
“Pretend” is about coping with the end of a relationship, wanting to make believe that things were different, trying to erase certain moments.
Sometimes forgetting feels like the only way fwd. It’s a story about wanting to shift to a parallel life, even if only momentarily. ?— Mali-Koa (@malikoa) December 9, 2018
The track begins as a soft acoustic, then carries on with Mali-Koa’s mature, raspy vocals and heartfelt lyrics. Towards the end, the violins add a melancholic, yet calming tone. The passion and pain found in this song is what has made it so easy to fall in love with!
With 2019 coming around the corner, we hope the year will bring us more music from Mali-Koa! We cannot wait to see what the future will have in store for her.
