2016 is shaping up to be a great year for Mariah Carey!
Back in December, the singer announced she’s headed on a European tour this year. Now, it has been revealed that Carey is recently engaged to the Australian billionaire James Packer. The couple had been together a little under a year when he popped the question. Reports say he asked for her hand over a wonderful dinner at Eleven Madison Park in Mariah Carey’s hometown of New York City.
The gorgeous couple made an appearance on the red carpet for the G’Day Los Angeles Gala, which is a public diplomacy program that “successfully cultivates and enhances the Australia –United States relationship.” However, all eyes were on Carey and her massive engagement ring!
The ring, designed by Wilfredo Rosado, is an amazing 35-carats which is worth $7.5 million. Rosado reposted a picture of the ring on his Instagram saying just one thing, “Honored”. In an interview with Vogue, he revealed that the ring took two weeks to design and craft with various specialists being called in to assist with the process.
The unique design of the ring – a diamond centerpiece with the two baguettes on both sides of a platinum band – was the result of many years of friendship between the singer and the jewelry designer. Rosado described the ring as epic; “It’s an epic ring for an epic time in her life” he said.
While talking to E! News, Mariah Carey joked that the ring is so heavy that “I can’t lift my arm up!” As for the big day, Carey commented saying the couple does not wish to have a huge wedding. She also said her first wedding dress fitting has not happened, but that she is “excited about the dress”.
