On Monday night, MTV premiered the documentary about Martin Garrix: The Ride.
At the young age of only 19 years old, the Dutch DJ belongs on the list of the most successful DJ’s of this moment. It isn’t much of a surprise that after playing in the biggest clubs all over the world, MTV decided to follow him around with a camera crew and turn the footage into a documentary.
Martin Garrix, born as Martijn Gerritsen, scored his biggest hit with his own produced song called Animals back in 2013, at the stunning age of only 17 years old. After the hit single was released, it quickly reached the number one spot in both the UK Singles and UK Dance charts.
The documentary that carries the name ‘The Ride’ premiered on Monday night in Amsterdam. It speaks for itself that the big hero, Martin, was there himself. Dutch press spoke to him after the premiere and he let them know: “It was great for me to see it [the documentary] back, because to me certain things seemed to be so normal. By re-watching it, I realised how we started from the bottom and came to such a big thing, with a big team. It’s really cool to see that transition.”
Not only was Martin at the premiere, but also his family and close friends showed up. One of them was Robbert van de Corput, better known as number one DJ of the world in 2013 and 2014, DJ Hardwell. After seeing the documentary, he commented: “It’s like I’m looking at myself. I had the same passion at a young age as Martin has, and it’s awesome to see this back in a documentary.”
At the end of the night, Martin posted a picture of himself at the premiere on his Instagram, martingarrix. In the caption he thanks MTV and everyone who joined him at the premiere, and he lets his followers know that he can’t wait for the world to see it.
