Megan Thee Stallion has partnered with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to launch a new mental health initiative, ‘Never a Bother‘, in observance of World Mental Health Day (October 10). The campaign, aimed at youth suicide prevention, seeks to raise awareness about the importance of mental health resources and encourages young people to ask for help when needed.
In a heartfelt campaign video, Megan opens up about her mental health journey and the need for transparency in conversations, emphasizing that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. “It took me a long time to be comfortable talking about my mental health,” she shares. “Asking for help doesn’t make me weak. Asking for help actually built my strength… going to get the help gave me the tools to be stronger. So I [just definitely] want to talk to the Hotties and let them know it’s OK to ask for help… Hotties, you are never a bother.”
According to CDPH data, suicide was the second leading cause of death among California youth from 2018 to 2022. The ‘Never a Bother’ campaign targets youth aged 10-25 and focuses on populations disproportionately impacted by suicide. As stated in the press announcement, it “continues the state’s effort to increase awareness of suicide prevention and mental health resources, build life-saving intervention skills and promote help-seeking behaviour.”
Megan’s video, featured on her Instagram and TikTok, as well as the campaign’s website and social media, is part of a broader initiative by the CDPH’s Office of Suicide Prevention to provide youth with crisis resources. Through the campaign, Megan Thee Stallion hopes to create a space for transparent conversations about mental health and encourage her audience to take action before, during, or after a crisis.
Echoing Megan Thee Stallion’s message, the ‘Never a Bother’ website reassures young people that “you are never a bother.” It also features personal stories from youths who have faced overwhelming challenges, alongside downloadable useful resources to share with others. Whether dealing with a crisis, feeling low, or struggling to express their emotions, the site encourages them to seek help for themselves or a friend.
Megan has long been an advocate for mental health. In 2023, she joined the “Seize the Awkward” campaign with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, expanding on her “Bad B**ches Have Bad Days Too” initiative, which provides mental health resources for women and underserved communities. With ‘Never a Bother,’ Megan continues to use her platform to foster an open dialogue around mental health, reminding her fans that they are never alone in their struggles.
In addition to her advocacy, Megan remains active in the music world. She released her latest project, MEGAN, in June, and more music is expected before the end of the year.
