Kassel, Germany-based duo Milky Chance recently dropped their brand-new album, Living In A Haze, via Muggelig Records. Milky Chance is currently on an extensive tour across the U.S. and Canada.
Talking about the new album, Milky Chance shares, “We stepped out of our comfort zone to make this album. It was freeing and felt like a new chapter for us. We gave ourselves the space and energy to really dive deep into writing and producing, tried out new things, worked with incredible collaborators like Charlotte Cardin and Fatoumata Diawara, and created what we think is a colorful and diverse album.”
Along with topping the charts in multiple countries, crowning Billboard’s charts, and sell-out tours, Milky Chance has released popular singles such as “Colorado,” “Synchronize,” and “Living In A Haze,” as well as two mix tapes, amassing more than 5.5 billion streams.
Encompassing a dozen tracks, highlights on Living In A Haze include the title track, opening gleaming colors flowing into a contagious rhythm topped by dreamy vocals and layers of glistening harmonics, with psychedelic-like breakdowns.
Blending surf-pop flavors with hints of alt-rock and hip-hop, “Colorado” reveals lush washes of harmonics and lusciously languid vocals, imbuing the lyrics with alluring surfaces.
With its syncopated, reggae rhythm, “Flicker In The Dark,” features the evocative voice of Malian singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara. The feel and flow of the tune sways and ripples with creamy textures, giving the song a tasty, tropical sensation.
“Feeling For You” rides a thumping kick-drum, topped by shimmering synths and quixotic vocals. The rolling impression of the tune produces a mesmerizing groove, low-slung and infectiously seductive. While “History Of Yesterday,” featuring Charlotte Cardin, merges savors of hip-hop and R&B into an alluring rhythm as plush harmonies infuse the lyrics with nostalgic aromas.
With Living In A Haze, Milky Chance delivers an innovative album, drenched in their unique, tantalizing signature sound.
