Meet Vietnamese-American artist Monét Ngo, who recently released his debut single/lyric video, “Lonestar.”
According to Monét, “I’m an elementary school teacher by day and musician by night. I’m making music that encapsulates what it was like for me growing up and figuring myself out as a millennial. It’s always hard to define yourself, hope the music will help people to grow through the process.”
Talking about the song, Monét shares, “‘Lonestar’ was written at one of the lowest points in my life. It was a time when I was feeling a lot of social anxiety amongst my peers, and I was dwelling on past mistakes and conversations. I was feeling very disassociated from my body and mind due to a bad tattooing experience on top of already dealing with a lot of daily anxiety. I was at a turning point in my life where I wasn’t sure who I wanted to be or what I wanted to do next with my future.
“Should I follow the safe route and pursue teaching, or should I work even harder to pursue my dream with music?”
He goes on to add that he creates the kind of music “he wishes he could have listened to as he grew up,” merging elements of indie-rock, alt-R&B, and pop-punk into deliciously potent sonic potions.
After creating his TikTok account only a few months ago, Monét already has more than 250,000 likes, along with 10,000 followers and over 18,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, while “Lonestar,” released less than one week ago, has amassed more than 23,000 Spotify streams.
“Lonestar” opens on deep, dark colors rife with thrumming tones as Monét’s low, mysterious vocals imbue the tune with looming timbres. As the harmonics mousse up, Monét’s voice takes on dreamy, luminous tones, infusing the lyrics with intoxicating textures. An echoing, shimmering breakdown shifts the harmonic flow, followed by powerful, irresistible guitars.
Wow! With the release of “Lonestar,” Monét Ngo parades his innovative sound as well as his alluring voice. Keep an eye on Monét Ngo. He definitely has it going on!
