Nashville-based duo Jaye Madison releases their new EP, MIRROR: Vision, the second of a series of three EPs making up their debut album. MIRROR: Vision follows on the heels of the pair’s debut EP, MIRROR: Framework, released on March 31, 2023.
The trilogy of EPs narrates the real-life journey of self-discovery and self-reflection of Jaye Madison as they navigate life in their twenties. Their sound blends elements of folk, country, and classic rock into unique concoctions.
Recorded at Revolver Recordings in Los Angeles with Grammy-Award winning producer and mixer Mikal Blue (OneRepublic, Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz), co-producers Dean Dinning and Josh Daubin of Toad the Wet Sprocket, Michael Ward (guitar) of The Wallflowers, and songwriter Dalton Cyr (piano, guitar), MIRROR: Vision reflects the emotional vocals, gorgeous harmonies, and emotive storytelling of Jay Madison.
Originally from Lumberton, TX, Jaye Madison is made up of twin sisters, Jordan and Madison Skinner, who grew up singing and performing in community theater and listening to Elvis, Willie Nelson, Etta James, The Judds, The Eagles, Heart, Chicago, Janis Joplin, and Fleetwood Mac.
After being accepted into the Commercial Voice program at Belmont University, where they were surrounded by talented artists, they began writing original songs.
In April, Jaye Madison released their lyric video, “Shadow Man,” which served to highlight Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
Encompassing four tracks, MIRROR: Vision begins with “Peace of Mind,” opening on a dark piano topped by haunting vocals tinged with melancholy. Evocative strings enter, imbuing the tune with glowing, tender savors.
Upbeat country tones give “Ride or Die” luscious layers of gleaming flavors, providing a matrix for the delicious harmonies of Jordan and Madison, whose voices blend into cashmere surfaces. A stellar, braying harmonica adds tasty pastoral textures.
Perhaps the best track on the EP because of its delicious undulating flow, “Plot Twist” rides a mid-tempo rhythm as shimmering harmonics travels overhead. Oh-so-memorable vocals imbue the lyrics with velvety timbres and lush harmonies. “Middle Name” ties the EP off, delivering tangs of country rock and poignant lyrics.
